Portland Sand Sculpture Community Monument

December 9, 2022 - CoastLife Credit Union presents a six by four foot, fine-sifted, six thousand pound sand sculpture monument at the CoastLife Credit Union Portland Branch and Community Room. This 36+ hour hand-sculpted monument is a dedication piece to the grand opening of the CoastLife Credit Union Portland Branch.

In preparation of the December 9th Grand Opening Ceremony, the credit union contacted Mark Landrum with the Port Aransas SandFest Society to sculpt a dedicated piece that would resemble the Portland community. “After speaking to the credit union, I immediately reached out to Tyler and Lauren Morris, 2021 and 2022 SandFest sand sculpture competitors, to partner up on this project. I knew their talents would be perfect for this piece,” said Landrum.

Semi-pro sand sculpting competitors, Tyler and Lauren Morris, prepped over two weeks in advance to create this dedicated piece for CoastLife Credit Union. “Everything from the logo with the sea life surrounding it was custom sculpted for the credit union. It is truly a unique piece that the community can enjoy,” Tyler Morris said.

You can visit the publicly displayed sand sculpture at the CoastLife Credit Union Portland Branch located at the Buddy Ganem and Wildcat Drive intersection, across from Gregory-Portland High School in Portland, TX.

“The beauty and uniqueness of this piece is due to its location. It features various shadows, shades, and depths throughout the day. The morning light will highlight various details. Unique shades and shadows will then reveal themselves throughout the day until sunset. Also, this piece is ideal to see
at night too! Which is very rare with sand sculptures. The LED pinpoint lights above will feature new depths and shadows in it. This is truly a one-of-a-kind signature sand sculpted monument for CoastLife Credit Union and the Portland community,” stated Tyler and Lauren Morris.
